Theology, Anthropology, Sin and Theodicy, Christology, Soteriology, Ecclesiology and Pneumatology......These are a few of the "ology's" that I will learn about in a class I am taking at my church called Reel Faith, Real Theology.(Theology and Modern Film in Dialogue) The Class started yesterday and the thought of it being dry and uneventful crossed my mind but I decided to check it out anyway. I'm glad I did. I'm really excited to learn something new....
Over the next 10 weeks I will attempt to wrap my brain around some of the basic components of systematic theology and hopefully I will be able to use that knowledge to have some serious theological discourse (listen to me- Theological Discourse) through conversations with and about modern film. I will actually be challenged to "think outside the box" and reflect on my own theological understandings. (This is going to be interesting to say the least)
We will explore the scriptures and writings of the Christian tradition and needless to say I will have to do some serious self reflection and look honestly at my beliefs and understandings of God, humanity, evil, the Holy Spirit and the church. Once we've contemplated these fundamental elements, we will explore how these components are understood, represented and utilized within a variety of films. (Amistad, Antwone Fisher, The Color Purple, The Matrix and the Apostle)
All I can say is wow!!!! I'll keep you posted on some of the things that I learn...
